a blogger's Tutorial

Has anyone ever thought to themselves: I have my little blog logo but how do add the code for people to copy? Just how difficult is it?? Can anybody help me please!!!!

Part of making sure a blog becomes popular is making sure there is a way for people to link back to you. So how do you do that? You can just upload your logo into your sidebar and hope people want to save it, upload it and then remember where they're supposed to link back to with it. Seems like alot of work for someone to go thru.

Or you can add the code for them to copy, making things easier all around.

Here's how:

Upload your image to your host of choice. I use Picasa because it's free and you automatically have a Picasa account when you sign up for blogger.

Once you have uploaded your image, you want the image URL. Here is an example of where that is located in Picasa:

click the image to make it larger

Go to your blog's dashboard and "add a widget". You will want an "html/javascript" widget.

First we want to put the image in there, so people can see what it is they are linking to:
<img src="YourImageUrlHere" border="0" alt="Some text here, maybe the name of your blog"><br>

Underneath that code, you'll use the following code:
<textarea><a href="http://YourBlogLinkHere.com"><img src="YourImageUrlHere" border="0" alt="Your blog title here"></a></textarea>

So what you end up with is this:
<img src="YourImageUrlHere" border="0" alt="Your blog title here"><br>
<textarea><a href="http://YourBlogLinkHere.com"><img src="YourImageUrlHere" border="0" alt="Your blog title here"></a></textarea>

It is important that you are very careful when copying the code. With any code like this even a single space where it does not belong can cause the code not to work.

I hope that you have found this tutorial helpful and please do not hesitate to ask any questions. Just comment on this post and include your email address and I will get back to you asap!

Please remember that all reader tips and techniques are welcome. You can submit your tips to papercraftorium @gmail.com

Reader Tips: Modge Podge

On my own blog I recently asked my readers the correct way to Modge Podge, to avoid the wrinkles I often get when I try.

Here are the responses I received:
Courtney said...Penny, I have found when I work with modge podge I tend to get the wrinkles when I use too much...try going a little lighter and that should help.

Jena said...I have why I don't use it muchh Modge Podge, which is why I don't use it much. I've had to keep pressing and smoothing until it dries to keep the wrinkles out and it's been a pain.

Bonibleaux Designs said...Hey Girl use less and try your brayer to "iron" the wrinkles out!!!

Tanya Rudd said...Hi, I coat the surface first with Modge podge, then I coat the paper with Modge Podge and put it down. I then take a wall paper roller and go over it. Be prepared to get messy. Hope this helps, it always takes me several tries to master something. Don't give up!

Dawn said... When I do modge podge I also use a smaller amount and love to use something like the roller to burnish it down and then a light layer on the top. It isn't a patient persons supply...you need to leave it dry in between layers.

Kim said...I've never modge podged in large pieces. I just do little stuff. I don't have a clue for you, sorry.
I kind of like a crinkly vintage look, myself...but then again, I'm not looking at it in real life!

Laine said...Hi Penny - I use Mod Podge all the time (it's an addiction of mine). Through trial and error I have found that when covering a shoe box it's better to coat the shoe box itself with the mod podge and not the paper. If the paper is a lightweight paper vs. a heavier cardstock - that makes a difference as well. I use my bone folder to smooth out the wrinkles. If I am using heavier cardstock I use my brayer. It just takes practice in finding just the right amount of mod podge for the item being covered and the weight of paper/cardstock. Less is better than more. Good luck!!

So there you have it! It seems majority rules... LESS IS MORE!!! Do you have any additional Modge Podge tips? If you do, we'd love to hear them. Leave a comment on this post!

Do you have ideas or tips you'd like to share??? Send your ideas, tips and tricks to papercraftorium @gmail.com We're happy to post your ideas and make sure you are credited for it!

Getting to know the Paper Craftorium Team: Penny

Tell everyone a little bit about yourself.
My name is Penny. I'm a mom of three wonderful children; Gillian, Matthew and Hannah. I'm also a proud Army Wife to the love of my life Bryan!!! I love reading, writing, crocheting and anything papercraft-y!!!

How long have you been a paper crafter?
I was first introduced to papercrafting in October 2008 and I started doing it on my own in November of 2008.

What do you consider your strengths?
Lately I would have to say scrapbooking.

Your weaknesses?
Anything new. I'm afraid to try heat embossing! lol.

What is your favorite paper craft technique?
Distressing with ink. I love to distress with ink. You can do it with any color ink and it always looks good.

What inspires you the most?
I am most inspired by other people's blogs.

Do you have an online shop? What is the link?
I do. It is a digital stamp shop, located at www.creationsbypenny.com/store

Is there anything else you'd like to share with us!?
When I'm not busy being a mom, wife and blogger, then I'm usually busy being a Girl Scout Troop Leader or working out at the gym.

Please stop by my blog!! Make sure you leave a comment or two so I know you came by! Are there any questions you'd like to ask me?? Just leave a comment on this post, or find my contact info on my blog!

***** notes from the {other member of the} Paper Craftorium Team *****I just had to add a few comments myself about Penny.
If Penny has found your blog and gets to know you, you will always see her comment ,even when you post those creations your not very happy with. I always look forward to her comments as well as many others that check to see if she  left a comment.

One of my favorite comments Penny has made:

Have you noticed that all my photos are clickable to a larger image... EXCEPT photos of layouts I have journaled on!? Those ones are non-clickable. I get embarassed about my journaling and don't want anyone to read it... lol.
See how modest she is! Besides being talented enough to fix the codes. She does wonderful layouts like this one right here.
This is another one of my recent favorites here. You will know why when you check it out.
